The Mary Poppins of dog trainers

Our whole family - including our puppy Trixie - LOVE Jane.  she is literally the Mary Poppins of dog trainers.  She was amazing at helping us rookies learn how to train Trixie, and she's the only person I've ever met who my children actually listen to. We love her beyond, beyond, beyond. Hire her now. Even if you don't have a dog!

Positive reinforcement has a long reach!

"Positive reinforcement": I found those code words for dog training online, an approach that rewards the positive and ignores the negative, and called dog trainer, Jane Robinson. I had just arrived in London from the US for a five month visit with my Labrador retriever, Nynke, and we needed help badly.

My dog was accustomed to sniffing grass along the sidewalks at home but Muswell Hill presented her with little else than asphalt. Nynke quickly made life interesting by grabbing tissues, of which many littered the street.

From the moment we met her Jane's seasoned dog handler energy--brisk, confident, and promising great fun--had a beneficial effect upon Nynke and me. Where I'd despaired helping my dog overcome an unfortunate new habit nothing seemed too difficult to resolve now, and my dog instantly was riveted upon Jane's every word and slightest movement.

Out in the street Jane had lots of tips on how to channel Nynke's attraction to tissues by giving her positive reinforcement for ignoring their allure. We also worked in a safe space on retrieving, which Nynke, despite her breed, did not like so much as playing "keep away." Even now, a year after our time with Jane, when I say "take it" in a "Jane way" Nynke snaps to attention and to my amazement complies cheerfully.

Nynke and I worked with Jane for the full five months we lived in London, and I am sorry that we cannot work with her still, though as I mentioned we took what we learned from Jane and brought it with us all the way across the pond. Positive reinforcement has a long reach!

Jane understands how dogs think and behave.

I realised I wasn't in control of our 9 month old Pippa and started to avoid people and other dogs as walks were becoming more stressful than pleasurable.  I thought Pippa was feisty and boisterous and didn't realise she was simply very confused by my commands. After three sessions with Jane I had full control of Pippa.  She started listening to me and understood my requests. We are now in tune with each other and I feel confident in any situation. Jane took us through a step by step process using a clicker which gave Pippa structure to work with and clear boundaries.  Jane understands how dogs think me behave, and understanding this is both fascinating and invaluable to me as a new dog owner.

Many thanks again for all your help .

A massive improvement:

Thanks for coming over.

We have tried a few things and immediately seen a massive improvement!  Essentially, halving Ruby's feeds and using the other half for training and treats and letting her off the lead and keeping her close and happy with higher grade chicken Etc.

Last night we had a completely tired and content Airedale!

Thanks

Consistent, kind and reliable.

Dear Jane,

I just want to say a huge thank you for all your time and care and professionalism.

When Hugo the Havanese puppy came to join Elly, my 5 year old Havanese, I wanted to find someone who would teach me how to train my dogs in a positive and thorough way and you are exactly that person.  You understood their personalities and helped me learn and put into practice all the right ways to get the very best from them both.

You have been consistent, kind and reliable and you have given me a clear and concise program, both during our one on one sessions and then followed up afterwards with thorough and personalised emails that helped so much to remind me of the many things we learned each session.

You evidently care very much about what you do and I am so delighted that Elly, Hugo and I found you.

Thank you so much,

Cara

Set up on the path to success

I had never owned a dog before we got Molly - a golden doodle puppy. I frankly wasn't prepared for the sheer amount of work involved, and as Molly is quite a vocal, extremely enthusiastic and bouncy puppy, it was quite overwhelming. Beautiful and cute as she was to look at, her jumping up, biting and chewing and barking were also putting the three boys off, leaving me the only one who would have anything to do with her. I lay in bed at night wondering what have we done and if we should give her up. Fortunately a friend recommended Jane and she taught me how to use the clicker and reward system to train. The results were instant and remarkable. Subsequent sessions really helped to give me confidence and to feel less frustrated with the exhausting puppy behaviour. Every time we came across a new issue (lunging at bikes and joggers, barking at new objects) I would think to myself how would Jane deal with this, and set to work with the clicker and a bag of treats. I just think every new dog owner should call on Jane because she really does set you up on the path to success. The boys too have taken the training tips on board and enjoyed being with Molly now as they can see how they can get her to do as she is asked. I was stopped on the Heath recently by a woman who commented on how well-trained Molly is. I said it's all down to a fantastic trainer called Jane. We all adore this dog now and she is well and truly part of the family.  Having said that, if she pinches one more bacon butty.......

Probably the Best Hound in the World

Milo is a 3 year old lurcher who had been abandoned and rescued. During his first week with me he drove me to distraction, and I seriously considered giving him back.
I could tell that underneath the manic behaviour, wee-ing on the floor, upsetting aggressiveness to visitors, and destruction of soft furnishings, there was probably a good natured hound. But I needed help to get both me and Milo to connect with it.
Our first training session with Jane was basically to show that Milo could be calm, and to re-assure me. In fact in the following sessions I came to realise that it was me being taught rather than Milo being trained. I am now relaxed. And apart from adolescent energy and enthusiasm so is Milo. All visitors are now welcomed emphatically, and everyone agrees that he is probably the best hound in the world.

Highly Recommended!

We contacted Jane because our 6 month old puppy had become reactive on the leash with strangers and other dogs. As new and inexperienced dog owners we were feeling pretty desperate and had been given poor advice elsewhere. Jane taught us techniques to reduce his stress and fear, and most importantly to help us understand dog thinking. The training techniques strengthened our relationship with our puppy and going out and about is now a pleasure. Jane was good fun & we really enjoyed the sessions. Highly recommended!
